Topic: quilting patterns - Doyle designs quilts for the times (Southwest Iowa News)

Staff photo/Sunshine Dalton - Lynn Doyle never parts with the finished product that she shows wholesalers who purchase the design. Lynn Doyle of Council Bluffs realized eight years ago how to transform her quilting hobby into a steady income. Through her sole proprietorship, Bloomin’ Minds, Doyle’s patterns sell to five different distributors, are picked up by quilt shops across the nation, appear in well-known sewing catalogs and are purchased by Internet browsers worldwide. When Doyle, 55, is not creating, printing, folding or shipping patterns, she teaches a sewing class once a month at Sew Viking, 928 Valley View Drive, and volunteers two days a week for the food pantry at our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The bright new world of quilting (The Trenton Times)- Topic: quilting patterns

So “The Quilter’s Catalog” has chapters on, for example, who quilts today, tools and technology, Web sites, great fabrics and how to get them (essential, considering that the textile industry introduces 40,000 to 60,000 new fabrics each year), great teachers, and a special section for the beginner. Today, Cox says, women employ others to finish their pieces for them, which has removed both the tedium and constraints of quilting. New Jersey is also home to the Mancuso Brothers, David and Peter, who started their quilting concern in a basement and now stage some of the most important national and international quilting festivals. For more information on Meg Cox, her book and her quilting activities, you can visit her Web site (www. read more
