Piecing together our history (Hunterdon County Democrat)- Topic: quilting patterns

CLINTON — A special exhibit of antique quilts opens in the Tomson Gallery at the Red Mill Museum Village on April 27 and will continue through Oct. Quilts from 1850-1930″ has gathered an array of colorful quilts that speak of local history and Clinton women’s handiwork, past and present. Co-curator Toby Preston of Kindred Quilts in Clinton has brought together a group of enthusiastic volunteer quilters to make mini-quilts inspired by the larger, older quilts. The quilts on view at the Red Mill are local Clinton quilts, made by everyday women for their families. Quilting class has students in stitches - Pittsburgh Post Gazette(quilting patterns)

Stephanie Obusek, 17, a junior at Elizabeth Forward High School, works on a king-sized quilt in her family and consumer science class. Stephanie was making the king-sized, pink-and-yellow quilt for herself, but has already made a quilt for her niece, one for her boyfriend (with racing stripes) and one for charity. The quilting bug was hatched by sewing teacher Rebecca Fest, who has spent years stitching together the hobby with hundreds of students at Elizabeth Forward. Fest has a dry sense of humor and a palpable affection for her students, who tend to come into the sewing room during free periods or during lunch to get advice on matters involving quilting or anything else under the sun. read more

Many seniors finding art and friendship in quilting (McKinney Courier-Gazette)- Topic: quilting patterns

It’s almost no coincidence that Lola Ann Johnson has a love of quilting. Nancy Hise, a McKinney resident, said she dabbled in quilting when she was younger but didn’t really get into it until a few years ago. After returning to quilting in 2003, Hise has grown to love it so much that arthritis hasn’t even stopped her. Trenton resident Shirley Chapman, who is the quilting leader, has been quilting for the past 20 years. The quilting group is currently working on quilts for cancer patients at the McKinney Regional Cancer Center. While the women of the quilting group keep busy making their creative quilts, Hise said they also find time to just enjoy each other’s company. read more
