HENDERSONVILLE – Alex Quentin Cremer, a 2008 graduate of West Henderson High School, was named the second recipient of a Marker Science Scholarship. The Markers wanted to provide four years of financial assistance to an outstanding, academically worthy graduating high school senior who plans to major in a science field at a state university. The Henderson County Education Foundation worked with the Markers to establish the Marker Science Scholarship. BENT CREEK The Asheville Quilt Guild will hold the 26th annual quilt show Friday-Sunday at the N. This year’s opportunity quilt is “Radiate Peace,” designed by Robin Brooks, a member of the Asheville Quilt Guild and the Southern Highlands Craft Guild and quilted by Asheville Quilt Guild member Brian Fackler.

Amish quilts in quilt gardens – a natural here in northern Indiana’s Amish country. More than 1,000 Fancy Blue Petunias join red begonias and yellow marigolds in the quilt garden titled Bars. The 12 flower gardens and 11 painted murals depict a variety of quilt patterns. They’re spread throughout Elkhart County, each of the seven towns – Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury, Wakarusa, Nappanee, Shipshewana, Bristol – having at least one element. The tour is expected to continue again next year but with different quilt patterns in the gardens.

quilting patterns - Macdonald; Osage Library team up to display talents (Mitchell County Press-News)
Also on display is a marble sculpture by Susan (Young) Jefka of Colorado, gifts from Osage’s sister city Lermontov, Stavropol Krai, Russia and a variety of baskets in different styles, sizes and materials made by local artist Meredith Macdonald. The family moved back to Osage where Mary was a school nurse for the Osage Schools for 21 years and Jerome worked as a master electrician on big construction jobs around the state. Macdonald continued, “I returned to Osage in 1972 to live with the children for a year in a home we had purchased in 1971 in order to be close to my mother. Despite moving frequently, the Macdonald family eventually spent a great portion of their time in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The family continued to live in Virginia Beach until 2005, when they returned to the house they had purchased in Osage in 1971. Macdonald continued, “Shortly after I had woven my third basket, Virginia Beach had an “Art in the Park” fair.
