To choose Flores is only appropriate — this is the first year the high school has had a football team in more than 60 years, and he has stepped up to bring one back to the kids at the high school and to the community. The celebration will feature live entertainment, with Sellersburg Idol and Dream Dream Dream on Thursday, The Rumors and Rigbys on Friday, and the Silver Creek High School band and Daryle Singletary on Saturday. Sellersburg Idol, one of the many recent incarnations of the popular television show American Idol, will showcase nine local performers, with one grabbing the title of Sellersburg Idol. The show will feature vendors — selling everything from patterns and fabric to sewing supplies — and a viewer’s choice quilt will be chosen Sunday. A short fitted jacket can work wonders to transform any 40 + body into a lean mean style machine. If you have a jacket on this season’s shopping list, but you are not sure what kind to buy, here are 6 Fall Jacket Trends to make you Look Fabulous after 40. If you like leather but you are worried about looking like an old biker, then try a leather jacket with a new style twist. Be careful about wearing jet black leather which can be too harsh for many women over 40, because in midlife our skin and hair color pales a bit and the harsh black combined with masculine leather creates quite a jarring contrast. Try a 3/4 length sleeve, double breasted, burnt orange, merino wool cardigan for example, or how about a gorgeous wool swing back leopard print jacket? Leather accents on a neckline would be fine for a pear shaped woman as the texture up top would help balance out her body by drawing the eye up.

Local quilters Sarah Case and Agnes Casto, who recently were awarded ribbons at the New River Heritage Festival quilt show, along with Helen Case and Linda Mitchell, of Fayetteville, did the machine sewing and hand quilting of a lovely homemade quilt that was donated to the Fayette-Nicholas Chapter of the American Red Cross for use as a fundraiser. Tax-deductible purchases of tickets can be obtained at the upcoming Oak Leaf Festival (look for the Red Cross Emergency Vehicle, located at Lewis Automotive, across from Foodland; and the quilt also will be on display at the festival quilt show), the Fayette-Nicholas Chapter Red Cross office, by e-mail at fayettenicholasarc @suddenlinkmail. For Big Sandy’s Brenda Yirsa, it was the Chihuahua from the Taco Bell commercials and a hooded chameleon. Entries from five northwestern states and the four western Canadian provinces totaling 290 quilts and art pieces competed for $40,000 in prizes earlier this month. Yirsa has entered competitions in Big Sandy, Havre and Great Falls, but this was the first time she has competed nationally. Yirsa said she wanted to do a non-traditional saw-tooth quilt and the ridges along a hooded chameleon’s back made it a perfect subject. While she didn’t take home any cash, Yirsa said the judges’ critique will be helpful for future competitions and gave her the extra encouragement to try another national competition. A painter, Yirsa also produces patterns based on two of her quilts that replicate original paintings for Bigfork Bay Cotton.
