Quilting is art for Platter (Durant Daily Democrat)- About: quilting patterns

Platter said she enters international quilt shows and the quilts that compete âare too valuable to be on beds. Platter said she prefers machine quilting to making a quilt by hand, and most quilts in big shows today are not hand-sewn. The quilt won an honorable mention in the 2002 Pacific International Show and the 2006 Viewerâs Choice ribbon in the Greater Houston Quilt Show. Platter also had success with her first appliqué quilt, âSouthern Wildflowersâ (1996), a quilt containing American wildflowers in the style of an âEnglish garden.

Topic: quilting patterns - Popular patterns (The Ithaca Journal)

The enthusiasm for competitive quilting reflects the increased interest in quilting, said Carolyn Ducey, curator of collections at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum in Lincoln, Neb. The quilting boom also reaches beyond the United States, added Bonnie Browning, executive show director for the American Quilter’s Society, in Paducah, Ky. She caught the competition bug when her first contest entry — a quilt featuring a woman’s face and an elaborate hairdo — did not win but was chosen by the judges of the Hoffman Challenge to travel in a post-contest show with the winners. Since 1995, she has submitted five hand-sewn quilts to the juried American Quilter’s Society Show & Contest.

Bourbon Quilt Show This Saturday - Sullivan Independent News- quilting patterns

Marilee from Seams So Sweet in Viburnum will be there with tables chock-full of “fat quarters,” bolts of fabric, new patterns for the fall and Christmas seasons and lots of sewing supplies and fun stuff. If you’re coming to the show, the admission is free, but the Guild is asking for a donation of winter hats, gloves, mittens, socks or neck scarves that will be given to foster children for Christmas. Visit the Guild’s display of “Quilts for Kids,” an ongoing project of collecting stuffed animals and then finding coordinating fabric and making a quilt that foster kids can snuggle with while they’re away from home. Fill out the Viewers’ Choice ballot as you are seeing the quilts and help choose a first and second place winner in each category and the quilt with the most votes will be awarded a “Best of Show” ribbon.
