Topic: quilting patterns - Enter ‘fairyland’ with Victorian crazy quilts - University of Wisconsin-Madison University Communications

The quilts on display are from the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection and the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection ( HLATC ) is nationally renowned for its ethnographic textiles and fiber art. HLATC, a part of the School of Human Ecology, contains some 13,000 textiles and costumes representing countless eras, places and techniques, making it one of the largest university textile collections in the United States. She developed a private textile collection to support her teaching and research, and her collection eventually became the basis for the collection, along with her papers, artwork and photographs.

Lincoln Legacy continues with quilt displays (Rexburg Standard Journal)- Topic: quilting patterns

REXBURG — The Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration continues at Madison School District 321. According to Janet Goodliffe, public relations representative for Madison School District, the quilts represent a piece of the community that communicates his legacy over time. In commemoration of this story and in celebration of Lincoln’s Legacy, the Madison School District is asking businesses and community residents to hang a quilt in their windows on Feb. In addition community members can visit a Lincoln centered quilt show at the Madison Library featuring the Underground Railroad quilt code, sampler quilts and historic period quilts.

LCS students compete in national quilt block challenge - Le Mars Daily Sentinel- About: quilting patterns

LCS family and consumer sciences instructor Rosemary Cronin obtained the entry information for the contest, based in Kentucky, and had the students put their creative energy to work in creating the 16-by-16-inch square blocks using the paper piecing method of construction. The quilt squares submitted by the LCS students were titled Heart, Shirt & Tie, Time 2 Shine, Commits Tail, Spinning Triangles and Rainbow Fish. While the blocks from LCS did not take prize money, all quilt blocks from 61 schools from 10 states will be on display at the National Quilt Museum through March 10, 2009. Students in previous textile arts classes have constructed a quilt which was donated to the Life Skills Quilt Auction. Cronin also plans for next year’s textile arts students to enter quilt blocks in the contest.
