The Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society will be going “green” for its annual show this year. The free show, which features quilters who are KHQS members or are Kentucky residents, will open at 9 a. Becky Leavy, co-chairwoman of KHQS annual show with Nancy Shirley, said the 75 displayed quilts may be made from recycled materials or have patterns reflecting resources that need preserving. Several of the quilts - some of which were done by hand and others made on a machine - reflect the most recent former KHQS president’s challenge to make a “green” quilt, Leavy said.

Karen Montgomery owner of The Quilt Company in Hampton. This week, she’ll have an active role at the International Quilt Market, a trade show at the David L. She’ll teach workshops, help to market the fabric she designs and her own line of patterns, and welcome many of those attending the market to her shop in Hampton. Over the past 15 years, the shop has become one of the largest quilting stores in Western Pennsylvania, and she has built an international reputation in the quilting world. Montgomery is a frequent contributor to quilting magazines, including a column in the Fab Shop News, a trade publication.

Chandra Rugs put a new spin on woven leather and suede flat weaves by adding metallic gold and silver finishes to the leather, in the Zanay collection. Jaipur Rugs has added to its successful Grant Collection of polypropylene indoor/outdoor rugs. Chandra Rugs recently licensed artist and fabric designer Amy Butler, whose first rug collection was launched in High Point. Jill Rosenwald also debuted her first collection, showing six new designs in the Fallon collection of wool flat woven rugs retailing at $299 for a 5×8.
