(quilting patterns) Ligonier men create Overly's Christmas quilt - Connellsville Daily Courier

The quilt, “In Christmas Village,” a masterpiece of craftsmanship that was created by Greg Kuhar of Trauger and Jim Mikula of Ligonier, is on display at Overly’s County Christmas. The quilt was launched as a special fundraising project for the Overly’s Country Christmas HS Model Train Fund. The quilt is stitched in Christmas reds, and the buildings and figures featured are completed in the actual colors that are in the Overly’s display. The Overly’s quilt took two months to cut out the patterns from fabric and hand applique them to the quilt top.

(quilting patterns) Christmas future: Technology will rule the gift list (Fremont Tribune)

Technology, changes and cultural changes are among the many factors that determine what products will make their way to Christmas wish lists each year. You donāt have to pull a string to make a doll talk anymore, Roy Rogers has been upstaged by Tom Brady, and your mother no longer buys plaid pants for your father (to match his plaid jacket). Leonard Brester, co-owner of L&L Gifts and Collectibles of Fremont, said predicting what gifts will be popular in the future is not an exact science, and once popular items sometimes make a comeback, especially in the collectibles business. Precious Moments statues are still popular, and Brester said angel collectors, cat lovers and dog lovers create a dependable market niche. Another item that has remained popular over the years is Christmas cards, but even they arenāt the same as they used to be. Musical cards, introduced to American consumers two or three years ago, are popular items, said Hallmark manager Barb Vanek.
