ALEDO — Take a stroll through a garden filled with colorful shapes, intricate patterns, beautiful needlework, and colorful fabrics during the Mercer County Quilt Guild’s "Garden of Quilts - Past & Present Show" on June 25-26 at the VFW Hall, 106 SW 3rd Ave. The show marks the 30th anniversary of the Mercer County Quilt Guild and will feature various works by the Mercer County Quilt Guild members. The quilt was hand-quilted by the Mercer County Quilt Guild members. The Mercer County Quilt Show is Friday, June 25 from 10 am-6 pm and Saturday, June 26 from 10 am-4 pm at the VFW Hall, 106 SW 3rd Ave.

The compositions of Josef Albers, Frank Stella, Sol LeWitt, Victor Vasarely, Jasper Johns, Bridget Riley, Ellsworth Kelly, Andy Warhol and Sean Scully, for example, are so like some antique pieced quilts in their appearance and format that one has to wonder whether this was merely a spontaneous generation of ideas or whether artists were influenced by the works of unknown quilt makers of the preceding century. Myron Holdenried and Chuck Carpenter installing the “Lady of the Lake” quilt block at Mt. KELSEYVILLE – Nancy and Chuck Carpenter recently participated in the installation of a quilt barn block pattern onto their co-op shed located at 2550 Big Valley Road, Kelseyville. Konocti Growers began in 1926 as the Lake County Fruit Exchange, an agricultural co-operative that processed 17,000 tons of pears annually. History has it that the “Lady of the Lake” quilt block was named after a poem by Sir Walter Scott, published in 1810. Penny Halgren, The Quilting Coach, states, “Pioneer men and women loved the heroic tales of Sir Walter Scott, and the women honored him in their most practiced method of artistic expression by naming a patchwork block after the poem.
