quilting patterns - African American Quilting on the Rise Says Author Kyra E. Hicks - PR Web (press release)

According to the 2010 Quilting in AmericaTM survey, there has been a 65% increase in the number of black quilters in the last decade. According to this yearâs Quilting in America survey there has been a 65% increase in the number of black quilters in the past decade. Black quilters spend $279 million annually on quilting activities, products and services such as fabrics, sewing machines, quilting lessons, magazines and books, up from $93. There are links in the book to more than 10 web sites and blogs featuring African American male quilters. Hicks is a skilled crafter whose work has been shown around the country in such prestigious venues as the American Folk Art Museum in New York, the Smithsonian Institutionâs Renwick Gallery in Washington DC, and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Her quilts are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Arts & Design in New York City and the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

ANN ARBOR: Library events Sept. 23-30 - Heritage Newspapers- Topic: quilting patterns

Over the past 20 years, the Ann Arbor District Library has built up a sizable art print collection. Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Brooks Hinerman developed her appreciation of the beauty of the natural world as a child, spending time every year in the Northern Canadian wilderness. Tom Jensen, Ann Arbor native and director of Public Policy Polling, a polling source on key political races across the country, will discuss the 2010 Congressional mid-term elections. The Ann Arbor City Planning Commission and the Ann Arbor Energy and Environmental Commission are co-sponsors of the event featuring Pat Murphy, nationally-known speaker and expert on energy, Peak Oil, geopolitics, and lifestyle solutions.
