Clay by Mary Lynch In Town Gallery will present clay artist Mary Lynch and fiber artist Linda White in the exhibit “Inspired Details from Nature,” which subtly combines the diversity of their individual mediums with a nature theme. The artists have dedicated the exhibit to the Chattanooga Nature Center, and a portion of their sales for the month will be donated to the Center. White takes a standard sewing machine, some basic sewing and appliqu� supplies, fabrics full of color and patterns, mixes them together with a great sense of design, a heap of imagination and BAM. Both artists find inspiration in the beauty of the outdoors, specifically in the patterns and shapes found in the landscape, but each artist has a unique response. In a joint comment, the artists said, “The Chattanooga Nature Center is one of the places that nurtures a deep appreciation in us of the native plants and animals here.

The Down by the River Quilt Guild has donated a quilt to Main Street Portsmouth. The American Red Cross, the Portsmouth Police Department, the Scioto County Sheriff�s office, the Homeless Shelter, the Marsh House, Stepping Stone House, Sierra�s Haven for abandoned animals, the Portsmouth Public Library and Habitat for Humanity have been recipients of Down by the River Quilt Guild quilts or have benefited from the raffle sales of them. The Down by the River Quilt Guild hopes to raise $2,500 for Main Street Portsmouth. To view the quilt or to purchase raffle tickets, visit Artaffects Regional Art Center and Market at 607 Chillicothe Street in Portsmouth.

The Daisy Dance quilt blocks of white feature various reproductions of 1930’s fabric flowers in red, green, blue, pink and yellow, appliquéd by hand. WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP | Pat Atwell, of Valparaiso, has been quilting for a long time and will be the featured quilter at the String-A-Long Quilt Guild’s show, “Quilts in Bloom,” later this month. Tickets for the featured raffle applique quilt, Daisy Dance, made by guild members, are available at $1 each or six for $5. The guild has more than 75 members and is an active guild which encourages and promotes the continuing art of quilt making and the preservation of the history of quiltmaking. The guild contributes to the community by making and donating comfort quilts to CASA for children of the Family and Youth Services Bureau and Home Visiting Services.

The quilts hanging on the walls around the library show the variations of color and style that go into this art form. If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, you don’t want to miss the Sterling Public Library’s seventh annual Quilt Show. Jean Williamson shows the back of her Lucky Dragon quilt during the Quilt Show reception Tuesday. The show displays a wide variety of colors, patterns and techniques, demonstrating that quilting is as much of an art form as painting or sculpting. This year’s show also includes a silent auction for a 96”x96” Grandmother’s Fan quilt made by Jeanne Davis, Sandi Heaston, Lireva Lenz, Jeannette Lininger, Timi McCormick, Katherine Miles, Ruth Prall, Dorothy Schreyer and Janet Strasser. This quilt is made of 1930s reproduction prints and was displayed at the quilt show in 2008.

LAMPASAS – A comforting history was on display in Lampasas this weekend, with hand-me-down quilts dating back to 1860s alongside modern quilts by local practitioners for the Needle Art and Quilt Show. The museum hosts the annual event as a fundraiser for the Keystone Square Museum, but also to support quilt making in the modern age, Detrick said. The quilt of an antique Singer sewing machine that Lampasas resident Joyce Lucas, 64, entered was made to teach an aging fellow quilter in the local circles the watercolor style, which uses colors and patterns within the fabric to make the quilt’s pattern. At the Keystone Square Museum, where the show was hosting an exhibit of aprons on loan from a local author, Gonzales pointed to the needle work and artifacts such as a hand-crank washing machine on display at the museum.

The Shelter Box project was conceived and developed by Tom Henderson, a member of the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, Cornwall District, in Great Britain as their Millennium Service Project. Tom designed a tent, researched suppliers and — through trial and error — developed the Shelter Box. The chapter serves 33 counties of North Carolina as well as the entire state of South Carolina by hosting local programs for more than 8,000 people living with MS, and by raising money for national and international MS research. Hospice Cleveland County offers a number of opportunities for volunteer involvement, including direct contact with pa-tients/families, assisting in the office, or at Wendover, our inpatient/residential facility.
