The scene evoked the ancient — and often forgotten — role of women in shaping history, textile artist Cecilia “Cely” Pedescleaux said. Four other King-inspired quilts made by Pedescleaux — representing justice, brotherhood, poverty and racism — also will be on display. The workshop was financed with a $600 grant from the Tuscon Quilting Guild, which sent the gift after learning that the meeting place of Pedescleaux’s longtime quilting group, Beecher Memorial United Church of Christ in the 7th Ward, was destroyed by hurricane flooding.
